A Message from the Chair
The Department of Molecular and Cellular Pharmacology established in 1988 and re-named in 2000 is an energetic and leading department in our school of pharmaceutical sciences here at Peking University. The Department currently has 6 faculty members (6 professors, 1 associate professor), 9 lecturers, and 4 teaching assistants with a total of 20 dynamic team members. Our mission is teaching, original research and innovative drug discovery. Teaching is our foundation, scientific research is our job, and innovative drug discovery is our challenge. We all faculty members are committed to teaching and original research to complete our mission.
The Department offers a series of essential and advanced pharmacological courses for undergraduates and graduates in Master and Ph.D. programs. Among the courses taught in the Department include Essential Pharmacology, Molecular and Cellular Pharmacology, Cardiovascular Pharmacology, CNS Pharmacology, Pharmacology of Chinese Materia Media, Tumor Pharmacology, Pharmacogenetics and Introduction of Innovative Drug Discovery. In addition, the Department also provides lab practices that are required for each theoretical course taught in the Department.
Our faculty members are engaged in cutting-edge research spanning many areas including neuroscience, cancer, immunology and cardiovascular biology. With the support of innovative drug discovery giant grants from the government, our Department is equipped with cutting-edge technology such as FLIPR/FlexSation, High-content screening and automated patch clamp QPatch. Meanwhile, our Department is currently in the phase of expansion and active in recruiting talent faculty members in the areas of screening, target validation and in vivo pharmacology throughout the country and the world.
